SENZALA BALI DEMO TEAM

In addition to classes and workshops, SENZALA BALI also offer demonstrations of Capoeira for public or private events. Due to the highly visual and exciting nature of Capoeira, these demonstrations appeal to a wide range of audiences or clientele.

The Senzala Bali demo team consists of eight members who perform both the music as well as the Capoeira itself.

Demonstrations include:

Live percussive music, using the traditional Afro Brazilian instruments. These are combined with call and response style singing in Portuguese, the language of Brazil.

Jogo de Benguela (game of Benguela). A type of Capoeira game characterised by increased amount of floor movements, played very close to the other person.

Maculele. An exciting Afro Brazilian dance using sticks, performed to the pulsing beat of the atabaque drum

Jogo de Regional (game of Regional).Dynamic and fast-paced game, using high kicks, attacks, defences and jumps. This is the style which most people associate with Capoeira.

Acrobacias. Members of the demo team usually finish the demo with a performance of Capoeira solos and demonstrate various high flying acrobatics and advanced techniques used in Capoeira.

Performances are 15 mins in duration or can be split into two 10 minute segments. Though our preferred surface is wood, performances can also be done on grass or concrete.
